In 2013, Dilman Dila‘s short story, A Killing in the Sun was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize. This year, we bring you his debut short story collection titled featuring ten stories in the speculative fiction genre. that draw from Africa’s riulture.
A Killing in the Sun draws from Africa’s rich culture. “I chose to tackle these issues in sci-fi and fantasy for these genres give us unlimited possibilities to explore human nature,” says Dilman Dila who also has two novellas published and is a filmmaker.
These stories are set in a futuristic Africa, where technology has transformed everyday life and a dark force rules. Others are set in the present day, with refugee aliens from outer space, ghosts haunting brides and grooms, evil scientists stalking villages, greedy corporations creating apocalypses, the walking dead, and alternative worlds with themes any reader will identify with.
This collection is deftly crafted, running along the thin boundary of speculative and literary genres.
A Killing In the Sun by Dilman Dila will be published in September and launched at the Storymoja Hay Festival in Nairobi, Kenya on the 21st of September and in Kampala, Uganda on the 23rd of September.
More details on the launch events as well as retail details will soon follow.
