Short Story Competition Update

Thank you to everyone who shared our short story call out across their social media platforms. And thank you, especially, to all the writers who have submitted their stories. We have received over 100 short stories. This is an incredible record compared to last year when we started the competition – submissions tripled.

Stories are being collated and prepared for the judges to review. This will be a blind judging process. Meaning that the judges will not see the names of the writers and will judge each story on its merits.

Our judges are Bwesigye Bwa Mwesigire, Kgauhelo Dube and Sabata-mpho Mokae. Read more about them here.

We aim to announce a long list in July and shortly thereafter announce the shortlist of three and the winners.

The winning short story will win R5000, the second and third runner-up stories will win R1500 and R500 respectively. Judges do reserve the right to award joint winners.

Look out for more news about the anthology “The Short Story is Dead, Long Live the Short Story! Vol. 3” as well as word from our judges about progress.
